Perhaps it was the “La La Land “ effect, or perhaps it was just a cathartic response to the beginning of a fresh new year ahead; whatever it was, the 2017 Golden Globes red carpet had a little extra magical sparkle to it last night. Now that’s Hollywood folks; glitz, glam and all that razz-a-ma-tazz was on full display and we loved it! The ladies and gents of the big and small screen made the fashion world proud! Hang on to your top hat and enjoy our look at who slayed, and who was a nay, on last night’s magical red carpet ride.
2017 Golden Globes Red Carpet Breakdown
Like Butta Baby
Yellow in its many shades and tones was a big winner on the red carpet last night. Bold and bright and everything sunny, the ladies let their little light shine big and bright to our delight at the 2017 Golden Globes.
Actress Natalie Portman looked like a beautiful earth mother to be as she hid her growing baby bump under the Jackie O-esque Prada gown
Reese Witherspoon in Versace looked as sweet as a Georgia peach
The color yellow never had a more beautiful mate than Viola Davis in this simple yet striking Michael Kors one shoulder gown.
Emily Ratajkowski showed a whole other side to the typically innocence-inducing color yellow in her smoking hot Reem Acra gown
Kerry Washington in a peek-a-boo lace Dolce and Gabbana dress
Metal Mania
Always a trend to behold on any red carpet, the magic of a little metallic sparkle never gets old for us. What better way for a true star to shine even brighter than by adding even more sparkle.
Sarah Paulson in Marc Jacobs
Claire Foy in a soft rose colored Erdem gown was in perfect bloom
Actress Drew Barrymore was roaring in her metallic embellished 1920’s inspired Monique Lhullier gown
Felicity Huffman wore the pants in this two-toned Georges Chakra jumpsuit and was in perfect balance too
Naomie Harris in Armani Prive was cinched to perfection
Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen was almost there but then the sleeves got in the way for us
Come on baby light our fire…Thandi Newton in Monse
Actress Priyanka Chopra in Ralph Lauren Collection left us breathless and drooling
Ruth Negga in Louis Vuitton
Jessica Rabbit ain’t got nothing on Tracee Ellis Ross in this Zuhair Murad beaded gown
Gina Rodriguez was a metallic mamma in Naeem Khan
Naomi Campbell in Atelier Versace is in a category all onto herself but her shimmery lace peek-a-boo slits are giving us metallic vibes
Color Cuties
Color equal confidence in our books. If your goal is to hide in the shadows and not create a splash, bold beautiful colors are not the way to go. Like the colors of a mood ring, the colorful gowns that made their way down the red carpet at the 2017 Golden Globes put us in a good mood.
Angela Bassett in Christian Siriano was the epitome of grown woman sexiness
Chrissy Metz accentuated all of her positive in this plunging Nathan Paul royal purple velvet gown
I LILAC you , Hailee Steinfeld in this Vera Wang dress
Definitely colorful, but not cheerful, Zoe Saldana in a tonal pink Gucci gown
Make room for actress Brie Larson in Rodarte on this best dressed list
Jessica Chastain in Prada
Black Magic
Something magical happens when you wear the color black. You suddenly look ten pounds lighter and you look appropriately dressed for any occasion. For these two key reasons, you can never go wrong with throwing a little bit of black magic into your red carpet bag of tricks! Poof…Pow…be glam!
Actress Amy Adams in Tom Ford…of course
Busy Philipps in Stella McCartney
Evan Rachel Wood in Altuzarra gave us all sorts of attitude and confidence as she owned the red carpet in a tuxedo and pussy-bow blouse
Mandy Moore does it again in a sexy and sleek Grecian Naeem Khan gown
Goldie Hawn is age-defyingly beautiful in Prabal Gurung
Kristen Bell in Jenny Packham….ring-a-ding-ding!
Meryl Streep brought home the gold in more ways than one in her Givenchy gown
Jury’s Still Out
Even though the hits kept coming, there were a healthy number of red carpet misses that fell down right behind them.
Carrie Underwood made a full frontal fashion faux pas in her Iris Serban number
Showgirl….. no girl! Heidi Klum in J. Mendel.
Musician and actress Janelle Monae probably wishes she was a hidden figure after wearing this Armani Privé gown. We kid and are tempted to give her a pass because of her festive firecracker personality.
Olivia Culpo got swallowed by a Zuhair Murad flower garden
Michelle Williams In Louis Vuitton looked severely under dressed for the occasion
Sophie Turner looks like she couldn’t make up her mind which way to go in her Louis Vuitton dress
Perhaps if your goal was to blend in seamlessly with your dress, Emma Stone would take home the night’s award in this beautiful Valentino dress. Epic fail in our books because the color was all wrong for her
Sara Jessica Parker looks shocked at how terrible her dress looked on her. Move over Rumpelstiltskin…the Vera Wang 2017 bridal dress was ill-fitted and crushed.
The GUYS Have It
Finally, let’s hear it for these boys who showed style and personality with their ensembles and perfectly balanced out the old Hollywood feel the ladies gave off.
Ryan Gosling was the epitome of a gentleman’s gentleman in his white tux jacket
Donald Glover took one of the biggest fashion risks for the night and we loved him for it. His chocolate brown velvet tuxedo was the perfect mix of cool elegance. BRAVO!
Actor Jeremy Renner
Boys to men…. the kids of the show Stranger Things also earned their red carpet fashion stripes at the 2017 Golden Globes
Men have it so easy. Hugh Laurie’s tux was reportedly purchased from e-bay. Frugal and fashionable and it looks fantastic to boot!
Remember, the red carpet parade has only just begun and we’ll be here bringing you our colorful two cents from all the upcoming red carpets…..you can bank on that.
