MILAN Fashion Week Fall 2017 Collection Reviews PART 6
The Milan Fashion Week Fall 2017 collections were a welcome reminder of just how exciting fashion can be. And, even in the last hours, as the fashion world began to turn their attentions to the Oscar red carpet and the Mass celebrating Franca Sozzani, there was a palpable buzz about the week. If the Milan Fashion Week Fall 2017 collections are any indication, fall 2017 is looking good!
The End of Our MILAN Fashion Week Fall 2017 Reviews
Gabriele Colangelo’s fall 2017 RTW collection was a study in architectural shapes. In someone else’s hands the asymmetrical cuts, folds and plays on proportion could have been overwrought, but here the looks were fresh, modern and uncluttered. Stripes and windowpane plaids illuminated the crisp lines and clean looks. A spruce green blanket shearling and an angular, deconstructed shearling vest added to Mr. Colangelo’s vocabulary. The layering of a windowpane mink vest under a fox cropped jacket exquisitely reflected these same sartorial skills.
Collegiate inspired cardigans, parkas, varsity jackets, and dusters all pulled together with tights and gloves left a very autumnal feeling in the air at the Trussardi fall 2017 RTW show. Gaia Trussardi has made a name for herself in leather textiles and this year is no different. Gorgeous camel colored leather gauchos with a matching jacket was pure casual chic. A wine colored embossed leather mini and matching jacket were equally as powerful. Rugged glamour came in the form of a cracked leather shearling coat or the rabbit collar on a men’s leather parka. The rabbit lined track suit jacket had a downtown vibe with an uptown twist.
MSGM’s fall 2017 RTW collection was a joyous journey through color and image. A play on the TV series, Twin Peaks, designer Massimo Giorgetti fed his obsession with the show and its characters through pine tree designs, vivid fur, and a collegiate approach to style. A strong color story with azure blue and red shearlings or an acid green rabbit coat with contrasting chevron stripes were among the many outerwear options that will win top ratings.
Fulvio Rigoni of Salvatore Ferragamo is in his second season as women’s wear director for the iconic fashion brand. In the fall Ferragamo 2017 RTW collection he crafted an architecturally significant line of suits and separates that were modern, clean, and almost austere. Cool color tones in pewter, ice blue, and pebble gave an air of sophisticated luxe. Skillfully tailored coats with extraordinary, collar treatments in karakul, shearling and fox made for powerful statement outerwear. A techno puffer coat lined with karakul was steely strong.
If you like layering options, Piazza Sempione’s fall 2017 RTW was jammed with mix and match separates that provide limitless combinations. Beautiful olive leather pants, a grey parka with fox trim, a karakul smock top, or wide leg trousers, these were solid separates that will provide an enviable foundation for any working women’s wardrobe. Travel from work to weekend, young and old, day to evening, these pieces had longevity. Your imagination is your limitation.
